Net Crochet - for scarf

This is just net crochet..... You can start with something like #30 crochet thread, (Coat's and Clark's Big Ball )and a #10 steel crochet hook. This is >$2.00 at WalMart , Hobby Lobby, etc. for the thread. This might take some time to make, but it is cheap enough to practice. If you make a prototype out of cheap thread, you can tweak the design before you spend $$ for nice thread.

This is a big triangle with fringe on 2 sides, in fishnet lace, decreasing one loop on each side every row.

Measure your hips and add 24-36" to that number. That should be enough to tie it around your waist or hips.

Ex: hips 38"+24"=62" foundation chain

Make a foundation chain that long.Count the chain stitches and divide this number by 10 with 2 left over.This is the part that goes around your waist.
{{I would add an extra 24" to the chain because I like more 'drape' and lower on my hips. You might want a snugger fit.}}
Add 2 more chain stitches, turn, sc in 2nd chain from hook, and in each chain to the end. Turn, chain 10, skip 10 sc, slip stitch into the 11th sc.

Continue to the end of the row, on the last loop, chain 5, treble.
{{ This is a travelling stitch and allows you to jump to the next row.}}

Turn, chain 10, slip stitch into the next loop. Continue to the end of the row, and repeat treble /chain 5.

Continue in this way until the last row, and make a treble/ chain 5. Don't fasten off.

Chain 2, slip stitch in the side of the last loop, 10 sc in each side loop all around , 2 sc in each corner, join in the chain 2.

Decide how long you want the fringe. Double the length , add 1/2", cut 1 or 2 pieces of thread for each fringe, and attach in the space between the loops. I am just under 5'9" and I like 4-6" fringe.

I have made 3 of these shawls...... red one with beads, purple one with paillettes, white one with picot loops. The paillettes made my butt look like a giant fish caught in a net.

Have fun with this and let me know how it turns out.
